This section offers a brief understanding of how your sense of smell and taste communicates what your body requires for nourishment and balance. An initial structure for "building the muscles" of the sensory listening process is very helpful. I will lay out one way here. Each person has their own way- yet the foundation of physics remains the same.
Solving the when and what to eat riddle surrounding eating and exercise involves knowing how fast or slow your body processes food. Each biochemical individual digests and processes food at a different rate.
-Fast processors digest their food at a world record pace. They can eat a large meal and be hungry within 1 to 3 hours. These biochemical individuals have difficulty sustaining normal blood sugar levels, similar to individuals with hypoglycemia.
When a fast processor becomes hungry, their personality will rapidly change from Jeckyl to Hyde. It's important that they eat soon or shakiness, anger, frustration, confusion and severe sugar craving occur.
-Medium processors, can eat a large meal and be ready to eat again within 3 to 4 hours. They don't undergo such a dramatic personality shift as the fast processors, and eating quickly recharges their energy level and mood.
Fast and medium processors need to eat every 3 to 4 hours to keep their blood sugar levels from dropping. They should avoid exercising on an empty stomach.
It is important that they eat a meal within 3 hours or a snack within 2 hours before exercising. Carbohydrates such as bread, cereal, pasta, potato and fruit do not sustain their blood sugar levels long enough to survive most exercise sessions. Meals or snacks should contain a carbohydrate (fruit, potato, millet quinoa) protein and healthful fat source for sustained energy levels.
-Slow processors are genetically geared to survive for long stretches of time without food. Eating a meal or snack before exercise is not imperative for these individuals. They can follow a low-fat eating plan and feel satisfied most of the time. A slow processor doesn't require the combination of a carbohydrate with a protein and/or fat.
To prevent slow processors from overeating at night, they need to eat a breakfast, lunch and dinner. This speeds up their metabolism and decreases their need for a large dinner.
By continuing to follow established dietary patterns, an individual or an entire family soon develops long term deficiencies and excesses. Most people repeat basically the same diet over months and years, often extending to generations.
The balanced diet one size fits all is a myth. There is only biochemical individual balanced diets. So we are back to genetics. Our genes determine the chromosomes, and the latter are responsible for the presence and efficiency of the body's enzyme systems. If the enzymes do not function, one will develop a diagnosable disease, usually one that is lurking in the family background. If we could discover the weak enzyme then we could be more specific in the application of the appropriate vitamin or mineral to make that enzyme function more efficiently.
#2) The olfactory or smelling sense helps to indicate deficiencies or excesses. Of the many Dr, scientists and researchers who have studied the practical communication of smell, John L. Kitkoski spent considerable time and effort to find the key to a spectrum for dietary selection a methodology following human olfactory (smell). Whole raw living foods communicate the clearest to your body. Cooked and processed foods can be more life aphrodisiacs. They can override your biological senses and trigger emotional responses as well as act as a stimulant. (spiking your biochemistry creating a heightened over stimulating experience) What you smell is what you get. Many people like the smell of a particular food or mineral and yet they have no symptoms suggesting a deficiency. It may suggests, however, that some problem is on its way. Your enteric brain operates way beyond your cognitive mind- the cleaner you are and the better you get and listening to your system, the more likely you are to know what your body is asking for before an imbalance occurs.
*If you feel cooked food is of balance for you- simply smell the foods before you cook them. Spend time in the grocery store smelling. I start in produce, hit the bulk nuts section and work my way over to the meets. I also do this with each meal. Eventually you begin to get very clear enteric (gut stomach throat) cravings.
As biochemical individuals there is no "one symptom means one deficiency" method. Illness is not a particular vitamin or mineral deficiency but a complex relationship between ratios.
Each human individual has quantitatively a distinctive pattern of nutritional needs from individual to individual, specific needs may vary several fold. The need is dependent upon the metabolism of the individual. Vitamins and minerals are not stored to any great extent, so they need to be replaced almost daily. This can al be simplified through the smell and tast change aproach.
This system will aid a person based on their biochemical individuality. The methodology comprises of smell sensitive FOODS set out in an order following human olfactory (smell) and human body absorption rates. The basic component of the methodology consist of a self administered approach to correcting vitamin and mineral deficiencies, dependencies, or imbalances.
I use a numerical indica smell table created by John L. Kitkoski. It can be used for each person to score each smell sensitive food. The rage is from sweet/fresh/yummy, neutral, bitter/rancid or yucky. Taking into account foods that have a naturally bitter or sour smell may still have a fresh/yummy smell to them if the body requires something in it for nourishment. Obviously alcohol, coffee, processed refined carbs, sugars and the like are not included as they are stimulants.
-With a score of one through five, take one serving
-With a score of five through ten do not take in that moment.
The Numerical indicia score is used to indicate how often a person is to go through the process: with a score of one an individual is to go back and smell the item three times a day in consideration for consumption. Score smell sensitive food's of a two goes through the entire system twice a day in consideration for consumption. Score smell sensitive food of three, the individual can go once a day. With all scores of four's and five's a person can go back to the food three times a week and with score's of six through ten the person goes to the food one time a week in consideration for consumption.
#3) With each consideration allow your taste to tell you how much you consume in that sitting. Pay attention to taste change and change in texture. When the texture changes to rough and solid and taste turns to bland or acidic that means it is done. Eating slowly, one thing at a time you can get a clear ready for this "stop signal."
Eating a mono meal grants one that "stop signal" that often becomes fuzzy when too many foods are combined. The reason is, if I eat only oranges for breakfast my body will tell me when it has had enough, but if I throw in some other fruits I will sometimes notice that my taste buds are overstimulated, and although I may have actually had enough food, I will continue eating anyway. Overeating, even on live raw food, is unhealthy.
Give Your Tummy a Breather - Each food digests at a different rate, raw or not. Although all fruit digests very quickly, there are even small difference between say, a banana and an apple, or even between an orange and a grapefruit.
Eating a portion of you meals in line with a mono food diet gives the body a big break when it comes to digestion because only one food has to be digested. Thus, the food is digested faster (since no other food is holding it up in the stomach) and with less energy. Plus because you are following your eneteric signals you are eating what your body is asking for, when it asking for it, which means you are eating exactly what your body can use right now. This can lead to feeling very in alignment with your biological rhythms, the planet, all life forms and you Spirit.
If the body is using less energy for digestion, then this energy can be used elsewhere - like for taking a nice bike ride or doing a little much needed detoxification in some cases. It can also allow you the breathing space to feel the deeper underlying resonance with your Self in Source, which in my experience is the foundation of my health and nourishment.
For this reason, eating mono meals has a lot of the same perks as juice or water fasting, except...you get to eat. :)
The approach is built in and around the biochemicalal individual.
